FashionQ&A With Rodd & Gunn
We sat down with the creative team at Rodd and Gunn to chat through the new collection and the charming aesthetic of their flagship store that has just opened at St. Collins Lane.
Drawing on inspiration from New Zealand’s picturesque landscape, the brand’s philosophy is to create classic garments imbued with contemporary style, designed to stand the test of time.
From interior design to using drones to capture the perfect shot, we got the lowdown from the creative team at Rodd and Gunn to chat all things SS16.
The design and layout of the St. Collins Lane flagship store is beautifully designed and very welcoming for customers. How does the design of St. Collins lane differ from other stores?
The St. Collins Lane store incorporates large floor to ceiling windows running the full length of the site – we needed to capitalise on the natural light and allow the outside in – as a result the store took on a long lean shape with board and batten bay windows and bespoke designed product fixtures that accentuate the store’s features.
The word “lodge” comes up a lot with Rodd and Gunn – and is evident in each store design, stemming from the concept of the use of authentic and long lasting raw materials and traditional southern New Zealand colours and textures are part of what a lodge means to us and what we try to communicate with every store design.
We asked Rodd and Gunn’s Creative Director, John Prikryl, what his inspirations were for the SS16 collection.
A huge amount of inspiration actually came from an island in the Cook Islands called One Foot Island – a tiny palm fringed uninhabited island in a beautiful lagoon in Aitutaki (Cook Islands). The travel to the island and the destination itself inspired the entire collection. We tried to reference what one would wear on the island as well as travel/leisure wear.
What can we expect from the brand in the future?
More great product in amazing, luxurious environments. A continued commitment to using the best fabrics sourced in Europe and Italy to create our signature casual sharp collections.
Stay tuned for all things SS16 from Rodd and Gunn!
