Marilyn Monroe famously crooned that “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend,” but we’re proclaiming that it’s pink diamonds that are a girl’s best friend.
While many believe pink diamonds are artificially-altered white diamonds, they are in fact naturally produced – caused by different trace minerals within the compound elements of the diamonds. Pink diamonds are so rare that they make up less than one per cent of all diamonds mined.
Western Australia is the world’s pink diamond haven with 90 per cent produced at Rio Tinto’s Argyle Diamond Mine in the remote, yet stunning East Kimberley region.
Once mined, they are cut and polished by master craftsmen at Argyle Pink Diamonds’ state-of-the-art atelier in Perth. Due to their complicated structure, this process takes three to four times longer than with white diamonds and can only be undertaken by the best in the industry.
From there, they are placed in the hands of Argyle Pink Diamond’s trusted partners, known as their “Select Ateliers.” Being hand-selected for this honour is a rigorous process, with jewellers chosen for their unwavering commitment to quality, integrity and creativity. With only 30 Argyle Pink Diamonds Select Ateliers around the world, you don’t have to venture far with beloved Australian jeweller Cerrone having been awarded this prestigious honour.
Pink diamonds are set to become even more scarce with the Argyle Pink Diamond mine scheduled to close by 2020 due to its diminishing resource of gem-quality diamonds. With the imminent closure of the core producer, the value has skyrocketed. In the past 11 years, several colour-intensity grades including the Fancy Pink, Fancy Intense, Fancy Deep and Fancy Vivid Pink have increased in value by 367%, making them one of the fastest growing hard assets in the world today.
There’s simply no better time to begin your collection of pink diamonds.
